Claude Cowork pricing: what it actually costs
Claude Cowork does not have its own price tag. It's included in Anthropic's paid Claude plans, and the single most common mistake online is to call it "Max-only" at US$200 a month. On desktop, that's wrong — here's the accurate picture, as of July 2026.
Cowork is included in every paid plan
On the desktop app, Cowork is part of Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise — there is no free tier and no separate Cowork subscription. If you already pay for Claude, you already have Cowork on desktop. The plan you choose changes your usage allowance, not whether you get Cowork.
Killing the "Max-only, $200" myth
The confusion comes from the web and mobile beta, which launched on 7 July 2026 and is rolling out Max-first over several weeks, with more plans to follow. Several review blogs took that Max-first web rollout and wrongly described Cowork overall as Max-only. On desktop it has been available across all paid plans. When you read "$200/month research preview", that's the myth — not the product.
A note on AUD and usage
Anthropic sets prices in USD, so your Australian card is billed at the prevailing conversion (plus any card fees); there's no separate AUD list price. Budget for usage, too: Cowork's multi-step tasks consume your allocation far faster than chat — Auto permission mode most of all — so reserve it for genuinely complex work and use standard chat for quick questions.
